AI Fundimentals. Starting From Zero

No jargon, no doom, no slide about how many parameters GPT has. This is a working session for people who have opened ChatGPT once, felt underwhelmed, and closed it again. By the end you'll have used it to finish something real from your own job, and you'll understand enough about how it works to know when it's lying to you.

Format

Hands-on workshop — 90 minutes to half a day, laptops out

Who it's for

Teams new to AI, or teams pretending they aren't

What you'll walk away with

  • A plain-language mental model of what the thing is actually doing when it answers you.
  • The failure modes — made-up facts, confident guesses, stale information — and how to catch them.
  • One real task from your own week, done start to finish, in the room.
  • A short list of where to go next that isn't forty YouTube videos.

How the session runs

The five-minute mental model

What a language model is, explained without maths. Mostly it's a very good guesser that has read a lot. That framing explains almost every weird thing you've seen it do.

Laptops out

Everyone brings a task they actually have to do this week — an email, a brief, a spreadsheet, a job posting. We work through it together and I'll go table to table. This is the bulk of the session.

Where to go next

How to keep the momentum after the room empties: what to try, what to ignore for now, and how to bring the rest of your team along without a mandate from on high.
